We had such a wonderful evening
All of the gentry were there
Dukes from the highlands of Scotland
Including a lord from Stranraer

I spoke with the Duchess of mildew
Had words with an earl up from Gwent
But none can compare in my lifetime
For I met with the Duchess of Kent

“Hi Roy” she said, leaving others
How are things up in Bolton just now
And how are your wife and the children?
I thought, should I curtsy or bow

I am sorry the Duke is not with me
Would love to have come, I must say
He was asking only last weekend
Are Carol and John still away?

We chatted for ages and ages

But suddenly all was quite ruined
